The Enlightener Prize’s special category, TeenTalk, is awarded to the best popular science publication for teenagers. The decision to establish this category was made during the 13th season of the Prize in 2020.
“It’s an important task for us to award the Enlightener Prize to books aimed at adults. These books offer a serious conversation with a serious audience in a serious language. However, this year we discovered something amazing: many of the books are aimed at teenagers. It’s not a simple explanation of how the world works, nor are they quite adult books, but they engage in a very serious and open conversation with readers who might be considered the most demanding of all. Adults tend to forgive authors for certain things, but teenagers forgive nothing. The teenage years naturally require the utmost seriousness and honesty in conversation. It’s unlikely that we managed to catch all the books aimed at teenagers. This year, we decided to announce the shortlist for a new category. If the trend we observed is permanent, the category may have a bright future,” said Alexander Gavrilov.
The prize winner received 75,000 rubles.
Since 2021, the prize in this category is no longer being awarded.
