The Dead Lion: Posthumous Biography of Darwin and His Concepts
Maksym Vinarsky
Darwin is always included in the lists of the most famous scientists of all times and nations, regardless of their author. He is a man who once and for all changed humanity's understanding of nature, life on Earth, and itself. The name of this brilliant researcher, visionary, and revolutionary in science continues to cause concern, arouse anger and hatred, and even now, almost a century and a half after his death, there is a lot of people to kick a dead lion.
This image became a bright metaphor in Maksym Vinarsky’s book on Darwin’s posthumous biography. A person’s life continues as long as he or she is remembered, and in the same way, a scientist’s biography continues as long as his legacy remains alive. After the death of Darwin, his theory was subject to various interpretations and distortions, sometimes perverse and dangerous. His evolutionary teachings were used for their own purposes by adherents of the most opposing political movements and ideologies, completely distant from the problems of theoretical biology. Fortunately, his brilliant anticipation is being further developed in modern evolutionary science, and that is the main thing.
